Oh Comfort! Oh Canada!

Documentation of an installation for the Long Haul Gallery’s “Invisible”show held in Montreal, October of 2011.

The installation was an experiment. Through the installation I hoped to create a connection for myself and Montrealers to our daily lives inevitable reliance on the oil industry. Being from Alberta, I experience the sentiment that dirty energy is something that ‘bad Albertan’s’ produce. This kind of relationship to energy is misguided and not helpful in my view, thus, “Oh Comfort! Oh Canada!” is part of an ongoing effort to connect us all with our collective consumption and participation in energy production.

This series and topic will be an ongoing one throughout future work, I imagine, as the crumbling of our earth seems to be fairly pressing. I recommend watching Gasland for more information about the effects of the Bush/Cheney administration on the environment.
